Lukala quarry is located in the longitude of 14° 29’35’’ East, latitude of 9°31’27’’South and  an  altitude of 350 m. It is characterized by the presence of three aquatic ecosystems.
The three ecosystems can be included into a natural ecosystem that is Lukala river. This river crosses the quarry and in two ecosystems created by the exploitation of the non-metallic mineral. The last two ecosytems can be split into two sites : the site that is used up and that has been transformed into a pond and the site under exploitation. The latter can be divided into two stations. The exploitation has reached the free sheet in one station and partly the captive sheet. Its preparation by a pumping system simultaneously allows to feed the residential area in drinking water and to take it back to the normal bed of Lukala river. In the other station that receives excess pumping waters, fish are visibly observed. This situation has motivated us to deepen our investigations on the unknown ichtyofaune of these aquatic ecosystems.
The goal of our investigations is three-fold : to make an inventory of this river fish species and those that settle the sites created by the exploitation ; to start the study of the condition factor for teleosteen species that are the most representation and to sort out the physico-chemical features of these ecosystems.

The 217 specimens of fishes have been grouped into 4 families, 9 genus and 12 species. Micralestes holargyreus was the most representative specie. In general, the individual valves of condition improve at the rainy season and decrease in the dry season. The specificity scientific merit award of side resides in the presence of the Barbus sp., Cyprinidae not yet signalled in the ichtyofauna of the D.R.Congo.

Les genres des poissons inventoriés sont: Garra, Barbus, Bryconaethiops,Clarias, Oreochromis, Micralestes, Barilius et un nouveau genre en observation au Musée Royal de Tervuren.
